DAMA-I Publishes Results of International Survey

The Elusive Species of the Information Age: The Data Management Professional
[From the report] "At the recent DAMA International Symposium Wilshire Metadata Conference (April 2006 in Denver, Colorado), the association conducted the first ever survey of Data Management Professionals. The conference was attended by more than 1,000 professionals and about one third of the attendees participated in the survey. The purpose of the survey was to learn more about the professional and its work environment"[.]

DAMA-I Revises Code of Ethics

This revised code was presented at the recent DAMA International Board
of Directors meeting, and was introduced to the Chapter presidents who
attended the Presidents' Council meeting. All DAMA-I board members and
advisors have signed the code, and the chapter presidents who attended
the meeting signed as well. You can find a copy of the Code of Ethics
on the DAMA-I website.

The discussion will cover the steps FedEx took and is taking to understand the hidden costs and complexity of its data footprint and interfaces, as well as the approach a company can take to understand such problems.
It will also cover the questions that one needs to ask to kick off the work.
In addition, it will include how a Data Architecture group, a Systems Architecture group, and an Application Architecture group can work together for the benefit of the company
Featuring Brian Brittain FedEx Services: Managing Director, Data Architecture and Data Warehousing
As Director of Data Architecture with FedEx Services, Brian is responsible for data strategy and data warehouse architecture including application rationalization, interface control, and overall data management. As part of the overall Enterprise Architecture organization, Brian is also responsible for the strategic foundational application architecture for new applications.
Brian was formerly a Director of IS and BCP with Belkin UK responsible for managing all European IS applications and infrastructure, including data warehousing, Oracle ERP, and WM/PkMS.
Prior to joining Belkin UK, Brian was Director of IT at Verizon Business Europe managing strategic architecture, enterprise systems, business applications, data warehousing, intranet applications and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in Europe and Asia Pacific.
